In an effort to better align DC’s tax policy with the city’s values and changing economic base, the DC Tax Revision Commission solicited proposals from a variety of sources for ways to change tax law. One of the proposals under consideration is a Digital Ad Tax, potentially modeled on Maryland’s ad tax (which exempts news media entities). As the Commission reviews the various proposals, MDDC has provided comments about the overall efficacy of an ad tax. We will continue to monitor this issue. Currently, the Commission will deliberate on proposals and will winnow down the field for their final recommendations.
