Inducted into MDDC’s Hall of Fame in 2018. This article is based on information submitted at the time.
Rick Cullen served as sports editor of the Daily Times in Salisbury during the paper’s and the sports section’s hay day. Any one who lived in Maryland and Delaware between 1964 and 1996 who had an interest in sports, picked up the Daily Times and saw Rick’s regular contributions.
For the past 18 years, Rick has spent his retirement selling advertising for Morning Star Publications and has played a big role in the company’s success over the past 20 plus years.
Just for his work as sports editor of the Delmarva Peninsula’s top sports section, at the time, Rick deserves to be inducted into the MDDC Hall of Fame. He has also been the Seaford and Laurel Star sports section’s proofreader during his time with the papers.
In all, Rick has been working in the newspaper industry for over 50 years, in both the editorial and advertising departments. He always has time to give advice to a young sports writer or editor, both here and at the Daily Times, or a new ad rep. When I first started at the Stars 15 years ago he told me, “think of me as a sponge, I’m happy to share with you what I have learned over the year”.
